NOW IS THE TIME FOR MAIRIS REPORTING!

In order to provide an electronic reporting system that allows qualifying companies to fulfill the reporting requirements of Chapter 137 of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MEDEP) Regulations, the MEDEP developed MAIRIS, a free web based reporting program (located here.) If this is your first time reporting, you must register with the MEDEP and request a user ID to gain access to the system.

Qualifying companies include those who have an air emission license and who emit certain pollutants in excess of reporting thresholds, such as 25 tons per year of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or nitrogen oxides. These companies are also required to report emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs). HAP reporting is required this year and every three years. GHG reporting is also required for electrical power transmission and distribution plants that emit sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) and for GHG manufacturing facilities that emit any amount of GHG.

The MAIRIS reporting system speeds up reporting significantly from the former ISTEPS reporting software, but companies need to allow sufficient time to enter in the data correctly and to ensure the correct emission factors for each pollutant-emitting source is reported accurately.
